Cannot install newest commercial NVIDIA drivers on my SuSE 8.2 machine...

So I downloaded the .run file of the newest version of the commercial NVIDIA drivers. I really need to get these working because I want to use openGL and play 3-D video games. Here is my probem.

I get out of X and GNOME. I Init 3 to get to a windowless server.
I log in as root and sh the nvidia run package. Everything works right until it gives me errors about my Kernel. It says something about it not being the correct one. Then Nvidia will look for one online, it cant find it and then I get kicked from the installation! I have been looking on forums for the past few days and decided to just ask. If anyone could reply ASAP I would appreciate it. I currently have been without my iBook, (it has been in california being repaired for the past two weeks) So I have been working on setting linux up oin my desktop. Thank you!

Did you read the install notes for SuSE?

I read that whole page on the NVIDIA site. It didn't help me one bit.

I have a similar problem. I previously had the NVIDIA drivers installed. The update software (YOU) downloaded and installed a kernel update which knocked the NVIDIA drivers off.

I tried running the .run file again and got the same message about the kernel.

I used SAX2 and checked the 'Enable 3D' option. I now get the NVIDIA splash screen when X starts, but 3D games (Tuxracer, UT, etc) do not work - or work vvvveeeerrrrryyyy sssssllllllloooowwwwlllllyyyyy.

Does anyone know how to overcome this or how to back the kernel update out so that my system is back to how it was.

I've only been running Linux for a month - it's very challenging...

Matt

Looks like the answers have already been posted to this site:

Just need to find out what my kernel is and get the sources.
