you likely have a modem that will require special
drives to get it to work in linux.
run cat /proc/pci
and post any part that looks like a modem

Hi
If u have a internal modem , there are onyl a handful of them like connexant , lucent & pctel ones that work in linux. if ur modem is external .. there mustnnt be any kind of trouble getting it run.. if u have specified the irq settings properly . if u have internal modem info on how to install it can be found from my site
http://www.infologics.50megs.com/linux.htm.. plz post more accurate description of ur problem in the future

the cat /proc/pci was for us to tell what chipset your
modem has, so we could tell you what drivers to get
if any.

The command "lspci -vv" (as root) will display all information about an internal pci modem as part of it's output.

i've tried the lspci -vv and it didn't work, i heard there are only a few internal modems that are supported by linux, i have an external modem though should i try configuring it instead??

the external one would probably be easier to get working.
you can post the output of lspci -w or cat /proc/pci by
running it from an xterm of konsole or whatever,
selecting the text with the mouse, then clicking the middle
mouse button where you want to copy n paste the text to.
if you don't have a middle mouse button, then both mouse
buttons at the same time pastes the text.
