Cannot connect to wireless network in Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty)
Hello everyone,
I just installed my first Linux, Ubuntu 9.04, earlier this week and cannot connect to wireless internet. I don't know if wired internet works as I do not have access to it (this message is sent from Windows XP from the wireless network I want to connect to under Ubuntu). I am using an Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG wireless network card. It detects the network I want to connect to, but when I try to access it and enter the password, I am confronted with a message that the network is secured and requires a password. Every time I enter the password, the same message pops up again after the connection cannot be made. I think the encryption is WEP, but I'm not sure.
I posted this in the hardware section because I think the problem is with how Ubuntu is interfacing with my network card, but I'm not sure.
Here are some commands I entered and the output they produced:
uname -a
Code:
Linux laptop 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:57:59 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

Thanks, repo. I installed wicd, and it seems to have done some good. I can connect to unencrypted wireless and wired internet, but the encrypted wireless still isn't working. If anybody is having the same problem I am and interested in seeing a resolution, I moved my question to the wicd forums since they probably know how to debug the software better than anybody else. Hopefully everything will be fixed soon: http://wicd.net/punbb/viewtopic.php?id=639.
