cannot boot from CD

Hi all,

I've installed a new ATAPI CDROM under Red-Hat 7.3 as secondary master drive. The device is detected fine as hdc. I've linked hdc and cdrom (ln -s /dev/hdc /dev/cdrom)
and added to /etc/fstab the following line:

/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,owner,kudzu,ro 0 0

I can play audio and read data from CDs, however I cannot boot from it; in particular
I have tried from a couple of installation CDs for different releases of Red-Hat Enterprise which have worked in other machines. I can even read these CDs, but not boot from them. The BIOS has the cdrom listed in the boot sequence. At this point I am wondering if the problem maybe unrelated to the the CDROM, but to some trouble to execute the Red-Hat installation script.
Any hints will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

having come across this sort of thing beafore, the solution is usually to change the cd-rom drive or the mainbord - older cd-rom drives (in my experience) have trouble booting CD's

if you need to boot linux from CD you can rawrite the boot.iso to a floppy drive and use it to 'kick start' the cd - deatails of how to do this are included on the CD rom (if its a linux bootable install cd)
