Cannot activate 3D-Accel
Hi, out there!
I have a "new" PC, it is an AMD 686 at 900 MHz with running Mandrake Linux 9.
When starting the X-Server, I realize, that games that need 3D run very slowly (tuxracer, armagetron). As far as I noticed does this not depend on the graphic card, since it does not even work on the Voodoo3, where it ran on my 650 MHz-PC. I now have the GeForce2 Ti, but when I run the X-Server with the NVIDIA_GLX installed (and the changes in the X-config described in the Readme), the system hangs up (needs to be restarted by pushing the reset-button).
Running glxinfo tells me:
Direct rendering: No.
Load "dri"
in the config does not change anything.
Thanks in advance if anyone can give me useful help.
greetings / Libra RHR.

You need to look through your /var/log/XFree86.0.log for signs of trouble. Post again if you find anything.

Since the system hangs up, I would have needed to assign the log to a file. However, I solved the problem in the meanwhile so far. The problem was the detection of the AGP speed. When I force it to be either 1x or 2x when probing the module, it works. The X-Server works really fine now, tested with several things (xmms-mesa-plugins, Mesa-demos).
Tuxracer works really fine again, but armagetron does not run with the message:
Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)
I can remember that I got this error message with Voodoo3 when starting in 24bit-colour mode. But I cannot run armagetron with any setting on the GeForce2 Ti.
Has anyone an idea for finetuning this?

on nvidia you do not want dri or mesa, you want only the nvidia kernel and the nvidia glx with the nv changed to nvidia int he config, there are many more options, but that is the jist of it

Okay, that's true. Uninstalling Mesa does not change anything. XFree86 runs perfectly (Mesa-demos, xmms-mesa-plugins, tuxracer, UnrealTornament 1 [executed with wine]).
But the problem with armagetron remains.

hmm. 2 things
1) don't know anything about armagetron
2) for unrealtournament1 you should use the native binary, not wine. the lokigames mirror that is still up has the installer available for free download, it is much nicer.
