Can you boot a 2nd video card without X?

I've been running a dual-head X system for some time now only because I can't figure out how to get the secondary video card up and pointed to a fb device without X. After many googles and much reading of FAQs and Howtos I need help.

Currently running Slackware 11.0 with kernel The video hardware is (lspci):
00:0b.0 VGA compatible controller: S3 Inc. Virge/DX or /GX (rev 01)
01:01.0 VGA compatible controller: Trident Microsystems 3DImage 9750 (rev f3)

- and yes, it's an ancient system.

The BIOS boots the Trident AGP card but I don't even know if what I want to do is possible.

Any advice appreciated.

secondary video card

On my box this is done in the BIOS steup. Where either PCI or AGP is selected for video.

Your S3 Inc. Virge/DX or /GX is the exact card I have been using for the same function.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the thought, but I've already experimented with the BIOS settngs. I can boot either the AGP or the PCI card, not both.

There don't seem to be many ideas on this floating around so it looks like I'll have to start browsing the Xorg source and try and figure out my own solution. :-(
