can not write on new DVD writer with k3b

Hello everybody

If I open k3b, the dvd writer is not recognized.

I therefore changed the permissions of hdc which is the dvdrecorder.

linux:/dev # ls -l hdc
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 22, 0 2004-10-02 10:38 hdc
linux:/dev # chmod a+xrw hdc
linux:/dev # ls -l hdc
brwxrwxrwx 1 root disk 22, 0 2004-10-02 10:38 hdc

This solves the problem for the time being. I can then write to a DVD, i.e. k3b recognizes the drive.

As soon as restart the computer though, I have to do the same thing again and the permissions are reset to brw-rw----.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks

JeTa

Check your /etc/fstab file, make sure everything in there is correct, specially the part about the dvd writer.

I do not what I am looking for in fstab. Below is my fstab file.
Does anybody know what I need to change?
I believe the entry for hdc is dvdrecorder.
Many Thanks

JeTa

As far as I can tell, you need to add yourself to the "disk" group in order to access the dvd drive. Try running the following as root (with your username substituted for "username"):
Code:
gpasswd -a username disk

That didn't work.

linux:/home/jeta # gpasswd -a jens disk
gpasswd: Ungültige Option -- a
Versuche `gpasswd --help' oder `gpasswd --usage' für mehr Informationen.
