Can more than one hard drive share the same partition?
 
Is it possible to somehow merge 2 hard drives together?

yes, well sort of.

you can create a logical volume.

I have used it and it works good

One thing, you cannot have your /boot partition on it. And boot disks may not work since they may not be able to mount / if it's an LVM
