Can linux share a laser printer with xp?

My wife uses win xp with a laser printer connected via the lpt1 port. We are networked with a router and I want to use the laser printer as well. I swap hard drives in my box with a caddy system. When I was running win98 and tried to print, I had that blue screen of death, however, it worked fine when they were connected peer to peer without the router. I am using suse and fedora core 1 and read that linux has a utility to use a shared printer that is connected to a windows box. Has anyone tried this without any problems? Or is it better to use a print server?

You'll have to load the print services for unix and create an lpr connection on the XP box I think. It can be done, I just haven't done it in a long time.

When you set up the print que in Fedora, you can choose how the printer is connected. The choice in my case is Networked Windows (smb). However, the xp box and its printer did not show up in the queue type dialog box. I hit the specify button and filled in the blanks. When I hit ok, the firewall alert appeared on the xp box. I disabled the firewall in the xp box and still nothing was listed. There is only one user account on the xp box so no password is used, but I am not sure if there is a default password.
