Solaris has good support for tape drives. That being said, Solaris 8 is OLD. Solaris is now available for *free*, and there's even OpenSolaris that's open source. It's definitely a good idea to look into upgrading. Hardware compatibility is greatly improved in Solaris 10, and a number of *wonderful* new features have been added.

Have you tried anything yet? If you connect it to the machine, is it detected at all?

Your first stop should be the Solaris HCL. After that, I'd check IBM's support site (or call their support team) for assistance. And Google is always a good resource.

You might want to try the Sun Developer Network Solaris forum or some of the other Sun forums on the 'net if nobody else here can help any more.
