Can I control the computer with a musical keyboard?

Some DAWs recognize my musical keyboard and play notes accordingly.

Getting MIDI Learn to work for general controls is a whole 'nother story though.

Anyway, just out of curiosity, is it possible to control anything in my computer with a USB musical keyboard? There are piano keys, some other keys, eight pads and eight knobs.

Edit: I just remembered that The Gimp works through MIDI. It doesn't work great, but it works. Just saying.

I guess it is possible, but probably you need to implement some kind of driver to make it work. And you can assign letters to keys (or any other actions).

Loom? :) MIDI over USB is not compatible with USB HID specifications used for typing, so while it is definitely possible, it won't be a question of gentle tweaking.

What is Loom? Is it software? Google isn't helping here.

MIDI is just a serial data stream. The usual sequence is "note on" with velocity, followed by "note off". You can get the official spec from the MIDI association website (registration required).

Loom is a wonderful old game where you cast musical spells and learned new spells by listening to the music.
