can hear sound out of left but not right speaker
 

Any sound the computer plays only comes out of the left speaker. Therefore, I cannot hear the right channel, thus causing some songs to sound awkward.

Yes, my speaker cable is plugged in all the way. And it's not the speakers fault, because I tested another set of speakers and they had the same problem.

How would I check to see if my sound driver has the right channel turned down?

run "uname -r" if your kernel version is 2.4.somthing then you are probably using OSS, if it is 2.6 then you are porbably using ALSA.

there are many different tools to change volumes, it depends what distro you are using, but a common tool for changing alsa is 'alsamixer' a command line program, but a very self explanitory ionterface. or 'aumix' for adjusting OSS volumes.

Also, if you are using KDE, you porgbably have a software mixer called arts, you should also check arts volume settings with a program like "Sound Mixer" in the "Multimedia" section of the main KDE menu at the left of your task bar.
