Hi!
Iīm using Ubuntu 8.04 on a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo M1425. Iīve tried Brasero and K3b with the same result. I can read CD:s and DVD:s but I can only burn CD:s. Trying to burn DVD:s makes Brasero crash and K3b to stop with a message: "This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize". I`ve seen that many have encountered this problem but i haven't seen any solution to it. I donīt think itīs a hardware problem. I can burn DVD:s when I use Windows. Does anyone have a solution to this?
I ran into that issue many years ago using K3b. I had to install DVDrip or something, can't remember exactly. Open up Synaptic and write 'DVD' in the search field. Make sure DVD+rw-tools and stuff are installed, maybe dvdrtools also. Browse the list that shows up, there's tons of stuff.
1. Open K3b (no need to have a disk in the cd drive)
2. Settings->Configure K3b...->Devices
3. In the devices panel scroll down to "Writer Drivers" and see what K3b thinks your drive is capable of. If it says "no" for all the DVD types then you probably need to install some packages to enable it.
It's as easy as 1, 2, 3
cheers,
jdk
All types of DVDs are supported, both reading and burning, except double layer DVD-R, which I'm not trying to burn. I've tried both single layer DVD+R and DVD-R with the same result.
If I'm not mistaken you get an error log with k3b if something fails. Have you checked that after attmepting to burn a DVD? Alternatively, you could try burning from a command line and you might get more information about what the problem is.
cheers

When trying to burn in terminal I get this output:
Code:
of=/dev/scd0 obs=32k seek=0'
/dev/scd0: "Current Write Speed" is 1.0x1352KBps.
:-[ WRITE@LBA=0h failed with SK=5h/ASC=30h/ACQ=05h]: Wrong medium type
:-( media is not formatted or unsupported.

Maybe you should read documentation for your burner.
Have you searched for updated firmware for it?
In the past, operating systems got their information regarding hardware from the bios, nowadays, more often they go through the firmware of the hardware.
Based on all other posts over the past 5 years regarding that error, the conclusion I've arrived at is hardware incompatibility. I have more than one DVD burner as I have many computers, if it were me, I would replace it temporarily with another brand to attempt to pinpoint the root of the problem.
