Can anti-glare films look just as good as anti-glare displays?

Saw some anti-glare displays in laptops and I liked them a lot.

Can the same quality be achieved with anti-glare films that you stick on top of regular shiny displays?

What are some of the best films for this purpose?

Subbing in.

I just bought an ips monitor and I love the color. It isn't anti-glare, though. I can already tell that is will be an issue, so I've started looking for films.
