Canīt install Ethernet under SUSE 10

Hello there.

Iīm having trouble installing some devices under SUSE 10 (kernel 2.6.16.21).

My system is a Core2Duo E4300, motherboard Asus P5VD2-VM.
The ethernet device is a onboard Realtek RTL8110SC.

I installed the OS, everything ok.

Login as root, I found the linux driver in the motherboard cd.

the readme file told me to extract the driver file, then enter the created directory and
do the following:

$../make clean modules
$../make install
$../depmod -a

but when I do the first step, the terminla prints

entering /usr/src/linux-2.6.16.21-0.8-obj/x86-64/smp
*** no rule to make target 'modules'. stop
error 2

what is happening? Iīm a noob in linux...

Thanks in advance, folks!

I had the same problem with another Asus motherboard. Suse10 simply would not recognize the onboard ethernet. Ubuntu recognized it right off, but SuSE refused to. I simply installed a PCI Ethernet card and it found it instantly. Unfortunately my Asus is a low profile machine and I had to trim the eth mount with a dremel tool before I could install it.

What was your motherboard? Was it using the same Realtek onboard ethernet?

Thanks
