Can't setup modem in Debian Sarge
Not sure which forum this would fit into but most likely here. I've installed Debian Sarge on 2 computers. One a Toshiba Satellite laptop and one a homemade system. The toshiba has a pcmcia 3com modem. The big box has an internal ISA (yes ISA) modem. I have trouble getting either to recognize a modem after install. Especially in KPPP. I had it working once in the laptop but it was a test install that was erased. This time it won't come up. KPPP works fine and when I go into configure (and this is as root or user) when I go to the modem config the "OK" button is grayed out. I can choose my modem (ttyS1) and query modem brings up the commands but when I go to go back to the config it only had "cancel" OK grayed out. Which means the modem won't configure. And in pppconfig setup doesn't regonize a modem installed. This is a show stopper for me setting up Debian on my system. Any ideas. Never had this problem in Woody or any other distro. Presently running Mandrake 10.0 on the laptop and Mandriva 2006 on the big box with no modem problems.
