Can't Print with either HP 920c or Canon i860 in PCLinux

So... just installe PCLinuz and quite happy with it. Just can't seem to print.

I know Canon's suck with Linux. Gave up right quick on that after reading threads.

So i dug out an old HP printer (920c) and can't get that to print. I used the control panel to set it up, selected the appropriate model, printing a test page---> NOTHING.

I must admit, the printers is old so the ink light is flashing. Does this have anything to do with it? i can't imagine, but who know with manufacturors now a days...

It sounds like you are using gui tools to install and configure the printers. My experience is if they don't work, you are lost.

Do you have CUPS installed? If not, install it. Here is a driver that works with CUPS.

http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_pr...P-DeskJet_920C

for the HP Deskjet 920c.

What model is your Canon printer? There may be a driver, but we can't help if you don't tell us what model it is.

Canon i860

I had my Canon working on Mandriva before using Turboprint. Unfortunately, I can't seem to figure out how to install it again.

As for your response CUPS is installed. I'm showing my model under the list of printers, but I will try the driver you suggested...

Think HP its broken

so i think it's the printer as it's not printing in Windows...

i shall focus on the Canon for the time being.

I have never used Turboprint, but I see there is a free version available on Freshmeat here http://freshmeat.net/projects/turboprint/

If that gets the Canon going, go for it.

For the HP printer, go here for installation instructions.

http://hplip.sourceforge.net/install/index.html

This is for the hplip driver. It provides the most functionality. From what I read, it is an automated installer. There is an insall manual at that link.
