Can't mount VFAT
I have a USB flash disk. It is refusing to mount, giving the error "bad superblock"
It works fine on Windows. It works fine if I re-format it to ext2. But when I format it to VFAT and ask Linux to read it, it doesn't want to know.
I've enabled the options in the kernel to support DOS filesystems. I know the disk itself is fine as it mounts when it's formatted for Linux, and I know the formatting is fine because Windows reads it.
Any ideas what it's complaining about?

can't really say without that actual error messages and commands you're using to do this. what is the dmesg output when you plug it in?

Quite why it's putting out ALL that, I don't know.

A lot of flash USB drives are created with multiple partitions from the factory. Linux will not understand this, so you have to make one big partition. To do this use fdisk or cfdisk to make one big primary partition and mark it as type b partition. Then disconnect the drive and make sure every module that the USB drive used is removed. Next re-insert the USB drive and format the primary partition using mkdosfs (I think). After you finished formating it, you should be able to mount it.

That shouldn't be the issue - I've reformatted it multiple times since I used it, and my previous distro recognised it no trouble. However

I didn't try doing that between cfdisk and mkfs.vfat, so I'll see if it helps.

it is usually done so:
mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/"your directory"
Of course, instead of -sda1 can be any sda. Check it on console while inserting "CTRL+ALT+F1"
