Question can't mount my CD-ROM

I tried to use the follwoing command to mount my CD-ROM but with no success:

mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom

I got the error message saying "wrong filesystem type".

I read some books and even the man page for mount, and they all say the fs type for CD-ROM is iso9660!!!??? So, is there a way to find out the fs type of my CD-ROM?

I don't know why the mount point isn't /mnt/cdrom. According to my /etc/fstab, all my mount points for floppy, CD-ROM, and CD-RW are under /media/...

I have no problems in mounting my floppy, but I can't mount my CD-ROM and of course, my CD-RW.

is it a data cd or maybe like a media cd ( like a music cd ) ??
what if you just try this to mount:

mount /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom

Also make sure that /dev/cdrom points to the correct corresponding device... like /dev/hdc ... etc ??

I tried mount /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom, but I got the following err. msg.:

input/output error
you must specify the filesystem type

When I used ls -l /dev/cdrom, it says /dev/cdrom -> /dev/hdc. I suppose /dev/hdc is a symbolic link??

yes, i did search the forums for my question, and i even tried some of those solutions, but no success.

But what about Drew's (trickykid) other question:
"is it a data cd or maybe like a media cd ( like a music cd )"

This type of CD doesn't need to be mounted. It is played 'as is' with a program that plays cd's.

/dev/hdc is the actual device. Any of the hdX devices are IDE devices. Unless it's using scsi emulation, and a few other exceptions, but rule of thumb states that hdX devices are ide devices.

/dev/hdc would mean that your cdrom is on your secondary IDE channel, and jumpered to master.

Cool

And as for the /media things, welcome to SuSE.

1 more idea, did you rebuild your kernel, and possibly leave out support for CDROM?

Cool
