Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Can't mount CD-RW in Red Hat 9

I've started having trouble mounting my cd-rw drive all of a sudden. Today it started giving me this message:

"wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/cdrom1, or too many mounted file systems"

I'm really confused because it was working fine before and I haven't done anything to my /etc/fstab file recently. This problem just came out of nowhere. Help?

What type of CD did you try to mount?

You can't mount music CD's

Adaptec DirectCD or Nero InCD use the UDF filesystem not iso9660

You might have a bad CD or one with errors. Maybe scratched or warped somehow.

Did you try mounting another CD?

It was a blank CD-R. I know you can't mount audio CDs, it wasn't an audio and I tried several so I don't think it was a bad disc. But I've gotten it to work since then, but it seems like I just can't mount an empty CD. Is this normal?

Yep, blank CDs are just that blank. No filesystem exists to mount.
