Can't mount a floppy

When I installed SuSE 8.2 the floppy was on the desktop. But after I rebooted it was gone. I can format with Kfloppy, but can't read from it. I tried the right click on the desktop but when trying to access it I get the message
The desktop entry file
/home/brivan/Desktop/Floppy Device
is os type FSDevice but has no Dev=...entry.
Can't find it in YaST either it not listed in system, hardware,
I checked to make sure it is listed in the BIOS , I could ignore it but it is handy for small files.

Hmm...not sure what to do. I had a problem with my cdrom once, I have an 2 hdds, one swap, the other data, and had another swap on the data one. I Also had a cdrom and my xp partition mounted so that without the cdrom was a total of 4 devices. Apparently linux can't mount more that 4 ide devices. I dont' think this affected my floppy tho, but if you have a total of 4 ide devices then this could be your problem. Otherwise I'm sorry I dont' know. Try google.com/linux and just try several searches. Maybe you can find an answer there.

I've pointed out this 4 partition answer you gave out in another thread and stated its such bad advice. It doesn't even have anything to do with this thread and its wrong.
Please don't respond to questions if its not going to be constructive whatsoever or only give false information.

bvanemon,

What happens if you try to mount the floppy from a command line? example: mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy

I get a message that it can't be mounted?
Or should I use the root instead of the of just the run command.

can you post the error you get when you try to mount? go into the terminal and type what tricky suggested and post back what the output is, if there is no output then it more so was mounted, and did you do it as root? maybe your normal users don't have privledges to do such a thing (yet)

I'm tried both the run command and X permission
in root it replies there is no such file or directory
In the run command line is states
Could not run the specified command! Privileges I'm not sure what you mean buy that?
