Can't launch OpenOffice after installing graphic card
I've got a 32MB nVidia PCI graphic card from eVGA for my computer and installed it about 4 months ago.
My Computer: OS: Dual Boot: WinXP Home / Linux RH9 Processor: P4 1.8 Ghz RAM: 768 MB I haven't had much time to work with Linux. I'm trying to use openOffice. (The last thing I need to be MS free). However, when I try to launch it, nothing happens. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the application (rpm) to no avail. Then I read somewhere that some graphics cards aren't compatible with OO. Great, not only do I have to find a card that works with Linux, but now they're application specific??? Can somebody let me know what, if any PCI (no AGP) graphics cards work with Linux and OpenOffice? Or if there is something I need to do with some config file (xfree86config or something)? Thanks |
Try running it from a terminal, does it spit out any error messages?
OO error messages can be rather non-specific but it'll give us a starting point... -Taiyo |
Hmm, this is really helpful all I get is
Segmentation fault any ideas??? btw, here's the output of lspci... <output> 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corp. 82845G/GL [Brookdale-G] Chipset Host Bridge (rev 03) 00:02.0 Display controller: Intel Corp. 82845G/GL [Brookdale-G] Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 03) 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB USB (Hub #1) (rev 02) 00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB USB (Hub #2) (rev 02) 00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB USB (Hub #3) (rev 02) 00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB USB EHCI Controller (rev 02) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corp. 82801BA/CA/DB PCI Bridge (rev 82) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corp. 82801DB ISA Bridge (LPC) (rev 02) 00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corp. 82801DB ICH4 IDE (rev 02) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corp. 82801DB SMBus (rev 02) 00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB AC'97 Audio (rev 02) 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV11DDR [GeForce2 MX 100 DDR/200 DDR] (rev b2) 01:09.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4401 100Base-T (rev 01) </output> Not sure if that helps, but I figured, hey they put the sticky there for a reason. |
Hmm,that's odd...
I'm not too sure it's the graphics card, if it's quitting on a segfault (signal 11, SIGSEGV, means it's trying to address memory that's not allocated to it) A build-from-source might solve the problem... |
