Can't install fedora on HP Netserver LH3 with a NetRAID controller

I have an HP Netserver LH3 with a NetRAID controller. I am trying to
install linux on it. It seems like my linux distros doesn't detect the RAID controller. Tried Ubuntu 9.04 and it hanged just after loading kernel, tried fedora core 8 and it gave the following error:
"An error has occurred - no valid devices were found on which to create new file systems> Please check your hardware for the cause of this problem"

Does it means that fedora or many linux distros doesn't have drivers for NetRAID support? Please advice how to resolve the problem

Cheers,
Stefano

Try Fedora 11 or CentOS 5.3

Hi

Correct.

In a nutshell the Fedora and Centos distros will not work with the SCSI controller in their released forms.

The support for the HP NetRAID controller was removed some time ago when significant re-engineering was performed.

I experienced similar problems with HP Netserver LPRs using HP NetRAID 4M controllers.

If you visit the Centos support web site and query HP NetRAID controller support you will find a number of items with a brief explanation of the reasoning/events behind the discontinuation of support for a wide range of SCSI controllers (including the HP NetRaid).
(There is also a link to a list of controllers that are no longer supported)

In the case of my HP Netserver LPrs I use Red Hat 8.0 and Red Hat 9 (Executing happily in symmetric multi-processing) which have support for the HP NetRAID 4M SCSI controller, etc.

May I suggest that you either revert to an older distro, or, in view of the LH3's advanced design age consider replacing the machine with more recent hardware.

Hope that helps

Chris

PS. To other members - Don't flame me about Red Hat 8.0 and 9 they are old but stable products, even though they are no longer supported by Red Hat; they are suitable for a lot of people's purposes (rolls his eyes - I'm really sick of the flame wars about "old" distros - Horses for courses guys).
