can't install fedora 7 in hp/compaq 6510b

dear friends,

i have a compaq 6510b with windows xp installed. i'd like to install in it fedora 7 so that i can have a dual boot system. but when i installed it, i got stuck up in the Installation Method that asks what type of media contains the packages to be installed? it has the following choices; local cd rom, hard drive, NFS directory, FTP & HTTP. i chose local cd rom because the installer is in it. but when i hit ok for cdrom it says no driver found with the following message; unable to find any drives of the type needed for this installation type. would you like to manually select your driver or use a driver disk? i selected a driver from compaq as set in the choices but nothing happened.

i also tried mandriva installer but the same happened. but when i loaded the knoppix live in the cdrom it kicks. is the hardisk protcted against linux?

thank you for any help on this matter.

No, but you may want to try typing the following for the installation: linux all-generic-ide

i tried typing linux all-generic-ide. i did it by pressing esc when the fedora 7 tries to install and when the boot prompt appeared, i typed it linux all-generic-ide, but just the same i got stuck up in the installation method as stated above.
