Can't get suse 9.2 to bring up kde on Toshiba laptop
I have a new Toshiba A75-229 laptop and am trying to load Suse 9.2 pro.
I also have XP loaded. Loading form the dvd the load appears to go normaly.
It does fail at the network test. After the system reboots itcome up to the login screen. Login (tried once as root and once as user) kde starts, the icons flash, initializing system componets. The icons disappear and I'm left with the blue screen with the varios welcome's in the background. Cursor moves. Thats as far as it gets. I switched to a console screen and was able to login. The network was up and running. I could ping oanother system. I tried to reboot the system, to see if I could see any error messages. System goes down then hangs at
"please wait while system reboots"
Any ideas? or known FAQ's? I tried the load from both dvd an cd. Same results
It hasn't bothered the XP partition, that still works fine.
Gnome evironment works
I used the gnome enviroment to get the lastest patches and upgrades from suse, still same problem with kde.
I also still can't reboot the system with out powering off the laptop.
I have the same problem with my Laptop A75-S229. SuSe works fine except where it hungs at kde, where the 'world' icon is flashing and then goes to a blue screen with 'welcome' in different languages and nothing happens. I have to turn off the machine. Swithing to the console as I boot up again, I see two 'failed' message on the 'eth0'
The XP works fine. Probably Suse doesn't have a driver for the integrated nic?
Based on a similar thread, I turned off hyperthreading in the bios and KDE comes up. Apparently it is an APCI issue which I guess is also realated to hyperthreading.
