Can't Get on Network, Network Config Help needed

I just installed debian but I could not get it on the network. For some reason, when I was installing it, it did not automatically configure the network settings. So, I manually entered the ip address, mac address, sub net mask address. After I did that, it said I could simply skip that part since ive manually configured it (it said it will become active as soon as reboot and it also failed to automatically do it) so I finished up installing it, but now I cant get it on the network or change the ip address.

When I tried to change my ip address it said “SIOCSIFFLAGS – resource temporarily unavailable” Under sbin, I entered: “ifconfig eth0 inet nn.nn.nn.nn netmask 255.255.255.0” to change the ip address. Could someone please give me some direction on how to resolve this problem?

Also, does anyone have any clue of why my machine will not see/get on the network?

Any/all help would be greatly appreciated!!

First of all, make sure that Plug And Play is disabled in your BIOS... I saw some problem about PnP and network card and it was looking just like this.

What's your card model exactly? Could you post the output of "ifconfig eth0", "lspci" and "lsmod" ?
