can't get my other sound card to work

i'm runing slackware 9.1, wiht 2.4.22 kernel. I ran alsaconf and linux found my sound blaster card, really quickly and everything works, but how do I get my onboard sound card to work also. Its RealTek AC'97 Audio. Is that something i have to pass to the kernel at boot time, or can i have both sound cards working at the same time????

thanks
