Unhappy Can't get Belkin USB-Serial adapter to work for synchronizing palm pilot

I recently bought a Belkin USB-Serial adapter to synchronize my palm pilot to evolution on Fedora Core 2. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get it to work. I have used other USB-Serial adapters with the same laptop without major problems, so I am pretty sure the problem lies in the linux driver for the current adapter.

When I connect the Belkin adapter, the kernel recognizes it, loads the driver (mct_u232) and places it on ttyUSB0, but when I try to synchronize with the palm pilot nothing happens.

If anyone has any suggestions, including suggestions on how to debug this problem, please let me know.

Thanks

progress, but still buggy

Well, I have figured out how to make it work, but there is definitely a bug somewhere. First I had to drop the baud rate down to a maximum of 38400. Second, I have to first use pilot-xfer to make contact before attempting to use gpilot to synchronize and then I need to try gpilot twice to actually get it to work.

So, the steps are:

1) Set baud rate to 38400
2) run "pilot-xfer --list"
3) open gpilot and try to synch. This appears to always fail.
4) Try synch again. This should work.

Strange, but not sure where the bug lies.
