Can't get any output from my mic. Won't accept input. Please help

Im plugging in my standard, $15 mic that you can run down and get at walmart, into my Mobo's onboard sound. The motherboard is an Nforce N57 Abit series. Mic works fine in windows, but deffinetly not in linux mandrake (trying to get it to work with Teamspeak, a VoIP program to chat with your members in online games) can't get anything to work though, and I'm really familiar with the teamspeak configuration settings, so I just think Linux isn't picking it up. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Open up Kmix and see if the mic is enabled. The green dot at the top above the slider should be "lit"
