Unhappy Can't get a LogiTech USB mouse to work on HP nx9010 laptop with SlackWare.

I have a HP nx9010 laptop with SlackWare on it. As you may or may not know, it has a thermal pad that subsitutes the mouse, but it is to complicated, so I got a USB mouse and it won't Plug & Play. I read something about the /etc/X11/XF86Config file, but I don't quite understand what I have to do.

Can anyboy help?
