Can't boot Seagate 200GB IDE

I've been trying to install KnoppMyth and I can't get the BIOS to boot from the hard drive.

A little background info:

When I tried to install KnoppMyth on the box, after hitting <enter> at the boot prompt, the image loads and then the screen goes black, indicating "Out of Timing" for H and V. I tried passing working vsync and hsync to the boot line but that doesn't seem to take effect during text setup screens, which are needed for KnoppMyth to get installed.

So I stuck the hard drive in another box, booted KnoppMyth and installed it to the hard drive. When I took the drive out and put it back in the original box, the BIOS doesn't recognize that the hard drive is bootable. Perhaps this is an over-the-size-limit issue.

The problem is, I got this box from someone I don't know and I haven't got a clue what the board is, let alone what BIOS it is using. All I know is that it is an AthlonXP system. Additionally, the box has no floppy drive, so I don't know that I could update the BIOS if that would even be a solution.

BTW, I tried setting up the hd as both a Pri Master and a Pri Slave and it still can't boot from either, so that's not the problem. Has no problems booting from the CD drive, though.

since you have done a good job on installing it on another computer....we know the hd works
I think its just a matter of getting your bios to recognise it.

Award seems to be the common bios and I know you need to have it recognised and that should be all there is to do.

common ways to get in on each restart are here http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hlight=bios+F2

award normally has an option to "autodetect" and of course you delete the OLD drive knowing your newie is either controller 1 primary or controller 1 slave etc

Hi, I realize your posting was from many months ago, but I am a KnoppMyth newbie and I had the same problem (the 'Out Of Timing' message). The way I fixed it was on the boot screen, I specified 'knoppmyth screen=800x600'. I was then able to proceed. Hope this helps.
