Can't boot from SATA HD, how about CD->HD?

I have an old system with an ASUS A7V8X motherboard, and 2 SATA PCI cards with three SATA drives attached and 1 SATA CD-ROM. I can boot a livecd and install Ubuntu to the SATA HD, but when I reboot after installing, I get a blank screen with a flashing cursor.

Is there a way that I can burn a CD that will just boot from a particular hard drive? I think some older Linux distros used to give you an option like that (maybe Slackware?)

thanks

Have you set the BIOS up to select the drive you installed the Distro to as the boot device?
Can you select the boot device during POST and if so, have you tries that?

Try that for starters, we need a bit more detail.

You may or may not have a bios update to fix that. Generally older systems didn't like to boot to pci add on cards except the cd.

It also may be a scsi option in bios. The bios may see the card as a scsi card.

I think you are talking about smart boot manager or newer plop.
