Camera install usb on RedHat 9.0?

Hello,
I am new to RedHat 9.0 and would like to use my cannon powershot A60 through the usb port to view and edit pictures i have taken. Could someone please walk me through the steps of setting it up. I am feed up with windows and would love to use linux 100% of the time but i cant get the camera to work with it. Any help would be much appreciated.

You'll need gphoto2 and gtkam installed. They probably are already - have a look in your Gnome / KDE menu (gtkam may be called 'Digital Camera Tool').

Plug in (and switch on) the camera (you'll probably have to put the camera into play mode), go into gtkam, and go into Camera -> Add Camera.

Then click 'Detect' and it should pick up your camera.

You should be able to work out the rest from there.

Dave.

P.S. You might have to have the camera switched on and plugged in before starting gtkam to get it to work.

Hi again.

Try picking your camera from the pull-down list in the 'Add camera' dialogue.

I had all sorts of problems with this. My IXUS is very particular about which order things are plugged in and switched on, so you might want to try restarting gtkam while the camera's plugged in, or switching the camera on and off etc.

Failing that, you might have more luck with an updated version of GPhoto2.

Dave
