cable modem not supported what to do?
i have an old cable modem, which is one way and needs drivers. i installed redhat linux onto a server i have in hopes of hooking up the cable modem and getting the interent to the different computers. it turns out that the cable modem has no drivers for linux and now i need help with setting up the cable modem. the cable modem is a discontinued 3com cable modem VSP. it only supports up to windows 98. i was wondering what i could do to get this thing running. any help would be great. oh and by the way this modem is internal and needs drivers.

An internal PCI card cable modem? There is little to no chance of there being Linux drivers out there for that card. This happened with DSL modems a lot too, the PCI cards complicated installation of the line and ended up costing way too much compared to a set-top box that you could connect to with ethernet. If 3com has nothing to offer, and you can't find anything remotely mentioning it on google by the model name, you're probably out of luck.

cable modem installation
hello
i have an external cable modem by netmaster. and i 've installed mandrake 9.0. The modem can be connected by usb or ethernet. The ethernet card is recognised by linux but not the netmaster modem. I've looked over the net for linux drivers or anything related but couldn't find anything. If someone can help me to get this modem working i'll be pleased. thanks

Cceng,
This is probably a very standard problem, if your network card is up, its not usually a matter of drivers for the modem, the modem does all its driving on its own, but a matter of authentication to the ISP through the modem. What connection method does your ISP use? DHCP? PPPoe?
