C-Media CM8738 6-channel PCI soundcard, setting the number of speakers under FC3

I'm having troubles finding out how to get the subwoofer and centre speakers working with this card, under Fedora Core 3.

In the 2.4.x kernel, there were config options for setting the number of speakers before compiling the kernel.

I'm not sure how to do it with the 2.6.x kernel. I'm a bit of a newbie too, in case you haven't guessed.

This is the PCI card with the seperate output sockets for rear and bass/centre, noth the card that shares these with line-in and MIC.

I think it's set to 4 channels already (because I hear sound from the rear speakers), but I want it 6-channel.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I'm having almost the exact same problem.
I go to the sound card detection, and switch from Sound Blaster to C-Media. I click play test sound, and I get a Nice sound. at the bottom where it says "Primary audio device" I switch it to C-Media. but then I still get no sound, and when I go back into the sound card detection, it has switched the default back to Sound Blaster. how can I gt it to use the default that I set, or is something else wrong with my set up?
