I have an on-board C-Media CM8738 sound chip, and am using RH 8.0. Using the included sound configuration utility, it found and 'installed' the chip, but only with stereo support. The sound works great, but I would like to have the full 5.1 surround sound working in linux, as it does in WindowsXP. On the official site it has a way to enable 4 channel sound, but that did not work. As there are 3 stereo sockets (Front L./R, Back L/R, and Center/Subwoofer) I have found <somewhat> of a fix for myself, in that I plug the Center/Subwoofer plug into the Front L/R socket and then have Bass, along with a single center speaker. (I suppose my main complain with this whole situation is that it's a pain in the you know what because I still dual-boot with XP, where I'd have to switch the plugs every time, and I can't stand sound without bass...) That, and the surround sound still doesn't work...
