Buying new Card for WineX Steam gaming... 90 buks on hand. any suggestions??
 

Ok, here it is, i got sick of using wine 'cause it wasn't pretty trying to get games to run. (tho, some ran like it was made for linux) Any ways, I bought WineX. WOW! this... is truely worth the 15 dollars... any ways since Steam works almost flawlessly (voice no work) I just need a new Video Card to play it. I have right now a Celeron 2.0Ghz, 512Mbs DDR 3200 ram, (running at 2100 speed cuz with my intel motherboard it runs at the safest speed for slower Processors.) 5400 rpm hard drive, and GeForce2 MX 400 64 Mbs, I get about 20-55 with it. (weather turned off) specatating is a little less. So i got about 90 buks, what card would u recommend that has the biggest bang for the buk? if u think it isn't the card then what would u prefer to upgrade first, cuz i got about 55-98 with cs 1.5.

for that price you line you should be able to get either the gfx 5200 256M vid card or an ATI 9500128M vid card.

not shure how either will work with wine, but they both will give about the same overall performance.

My card is older, but it runs the full version of UT2004 nicely (may be helped by my Athlon XP 2800+ though ;)). My card is the Geforce3 Ti200 and if I'm not mistaken it runs faster than the FX 5200 (yeah, it's really sad). You could also go for the GF3 Ti500 though. ;)

I'm not sure how it will work with WineX either, because I only play games native to Linux such as UT2004, Quake 3 Arena, Enemy Territory, UT2003, etc. I suppose that has a lot to do with the fact that all my favs (my favorite being UT2004) are all for Linux natively so I really don't need WineX or Wine for that matter.

If you go on Pricewatch, you can find some real good deals. Id recommend either an ATI 9600 128mb, or a Geforce FX 5600 Ultra, which are both around your price range. Some people say ATI's drivers suck, but I havent had any problems with my 9700 pro.

Yeah, the FX 5600 Ultra is actually a good card. Just stay away from the FX 5200. My friend's Radeon 9800 Pro doesn't beat my card, so perhaps the ATI drivers are a little bad for Linux right now. That's okay though, because ATI is working on making them better.

Well my 9700 pro gets twice the score in glxgears as my geforce3 ti 200, if that tells you anything, considering the geforce 3 ti is better than a geforce fx 5200.

Well i bought a Radeon 9600 non-pro a while, but i was never successful installing them, cuz sometin about the opengl thing error and it will not work, so i searched around and found that ATI is a piece of crap, so I bought a GeForce2 and its better, but it still is slow, so thats why i want a new card, and so before i buy a new card, can someone help me getting this beast installed? So i can see the perfomance.

So you need help installing the 9600? And if that doesnt work then youre gonna try the new card?
Well, first just follow the instructions on ATI's site, here and if you have any specific problems then ask. The guide worked perfect for me, so just try it out and update us to any problems.
