Buying High End Video Cards in Linux?

Does anyone know if there is a significant or even noticeable difference when purchasing a high end video card for Linux desktop usage? Obviously I don't play any games at all on my Linux work station but work just ordered all new PC's and they're coming with these however I don't know if there is really any significant reason to get them unless we're doing high intensive graphics / gaming. Does anyone know if these really help out with daily desktop application use and over all maybe watching a movie or two? I might play Doom 3 or Unreal Tournament for the fun of it but those games are old as dirt.

They will definitely be able to play Doom 3 and UT, as well as pretty much any HD video up to 1080P. That's pretty much it ... oh and maybe compiz.

There is no reason for such a high end card unless you use some graphic or video programs that need such a device. I'd think you could use the money better in some other place. A much cheaper card would do what you want.
