buying a webcam

Hi there !

I have a webcam that uses the spca5xx driver and I can use it as security camera, taking movies only when there is motion in front of it.

The problem I can't put it to work as WEBcam, I mean, I was not able to put it to work with aMSN, for months.

So I decided to buy a webcam that works with aMSN (or gaim) and FC5.

Anyone which have a working webcam in FC5 and can use it in MSN (please, indicates with software you use), please, give me the model/description and I will buy one for me.

Thanks a lot,

Cool

I use a Logitech Quickcam Messenger with aMSN. I needed to install the driver at (broken link) in order for it to work properly. There are instructions there for installing in Debian, but they should be almost identical for Fedora.

Thanks for your answer ErrorBound.

I was just about to buy one for me, and I invited my brother to go to the store with me.
In the way to the store, he told me that he has the same webcam I have, a mini webcam 300 from GoTech, and its camera works with kopete, using the same driver spca5xx I already have.

I decide to go back to home and give it a try.

I don't know what is the problem with aMSN or GAIM, but he is right. This camera works just fine with kopete. I have to do nothing. Point to kopete and KDE development team.

My webcam has a vendor_id and product_id: (hal-device)
Code:

  usb.vendor_id = 2362  (0x93a)  (int)
  usb.product_id = 9320  (0x2468)  (int)
  usb.vendor = 'Pixart Imaging, Inc.' (string)
I will register this camera in Linux HCL.

Good to know your Logitech works with linux too.

glad that you got it working. Of course, any camera that works in Linux should work with aMSN, somehow.
