Buying a hard drive dock - Linux compatible?
Hi all.
This is my first message although I have been an avid reader for quite some time. Normally I find the information I need by doing a search, but this time I seem to be stumped. I am running a used HP Compaq which is about 4 years old. 90Gig Sata HDD, DVD burner and 4Gig ram. I installed Fedora 17 two months ago as a third and final attempt to rid myself of Windows, and it is fabulous. The computer runs well, but the case can only hold one drive at a time, and I want a second drive as a backup. Will do the backup with Clonezilla which has ample literature which I can use to help me through the process. I have two ways of going about this. 1. Either use my external portable USB drive to hold the image which I then burn to the new hard drive, or 2. Use a USB Sata hard drive dock which will handle both desktop and laptop drives and do a straight Drive to Drive clone. I would prefer to use the docking station because my external USB drive holds all my backup files which I do not want to lose if something should go wrong. Current searches for hard drive docks only tell me that they will handle Windows and/or Mac file types. My question is, if I go the way of the external dock: Which USB hard drive docks will handle Linux? I look forward to your help. Regards Alan |
Perhaps you should ask: Which USB hard drive docks will not handle linux?
A hard drive docking station is basically an external hard drive. Linux will see it. |
Thanks for the advice. That is what I needed to know.
