building a nas box

Guys
I have my whole home networked I have a verizon fios 20 mb connection 6 pcs and a mythbox as well as 2 laptops [ I have 4 kids so I pretend I need all this] anyway I began two projects lately 1st was to store all my dvd's to hard drive and 2nd was to scan all my important documents and store in an organized manner herin lies the problem I am running out of space!!! I have 2 300 gig hard drives lying about I decided to build a nas What is a good distro to use that will allow me to use the 2 drives ie I dont want to have to reconfigure everything ,after .
In other words has anyone used a distro that will format the two drives so that I wont have to edit the fstab conf afterwords.
All my compters except 1 run ubuntu dapper the other my 10 year old runs pclinuxos in fact windows has not been booted up in my house since november 1999.

Every distro would include samba, which you could use to set up a file server. If you have a samba-docs package, it includes pdf versions of the Bruce Peren's Samba 3 books, including Samba 3 by Example. You could simply adapt a sample configuration. You might consider configuring samba swat, to allow configuration from a remote location. It is also possible to use "ssh -X username@natbox" and run it locally that way.
