If I type

sudo smartctl -x /dev/sdb
the terminal shows what I posted earlier, nothing else.
I'm typing something wrong?

I suppose a long test has never been run on that Seagate, and needs to be done before 'smartctl -x /dev/sdb' will provide the additional details. So, try 'smartctl -t long /dev/sdb', then wait the indicated time before running 'smartctl -x /dev/sdb' to get a full report. I just started one on my ST32000542AS, and have to wait 423 minutes for it to complete.

All the errors shown in this thread suggest it's time to retire that nearly 12 year old ST31000528AS.
