Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

BT878 "Off Tune" on composite video

Hi All

I have an un-named Chinese video input card based on the Conexant 878. This card has four composite video inputs; the traces from the sockets go straight to the BT878.

After installing this card, SuSE Linux 9.0 (kernel 2.4.21) recognised it and asked if I'd like to configure. Great - plug and play!

However, I have tried both xawtv (from SuSE distro) and camstream and the signal from my camera looks like an off-tune TV station, multiple image, horrible horizontal lines everywhere. Both of these programmes are using the V4L drivers.

(Before anyone asks, I have tried all four input jacks - only the one works at all.)

I have tested the camera on a monitor - works fine. I have also tested the composite video output of my laptop into the card - same result as with the camera.

What I would like to know:

1) What is the problem that I am encountering here and how do I fix it?
2) Is there any way, through Linux, that I can make use of all four of the composite video inputs?

Cheers

Matthew
