BT Voyager in slackware, newbie question
Ok so I downloaded the eciadsl-usermode-0.11-i486.tgz driver from http://eciadsl.flashtux.org/download.php?lang=en , I read the beginners tutorial on that website but everytime I opened up a root shell terminal and entered the stuff it told me to, it just said stuff like file or directory doesnt exist.
I'm a newbie to linux so I don't know 100% what to do. I know it's alot to ask for, but can some one explain to me exactly what I need to do, in a newbie friendly way, in steps. please

Firstly, where did you download the file to? It's easier if you're in the same directroy when you do the installation. To change directory, use cd, e.g. cd /home/user/MyFolder.
Secondly, in that "beginners tutorial" it says to download the RPM file and use "rpm ..." to install it. Since you're using Slackware and have downloaded the .tgz file, use installpkg: installpkg eciadsl-usermode-0.11-i486.tgz (as root of course).

Ok I typed in "installpkg eciadsl-usermode-0.11-i486.tgz" and it replied:
Quote:
Cannot install eciadsl-usermode-0.11-i486.tgz : package does not end in .tgz

Then I checked the file and it is a .tar file. So, what now?
PS. On the download page it says its a .tgz file but when you actually download it, it is a .tar file.

That's strange, when I downloaded it I had a .tgz. I'm not sure then . Maybe download the source version and install it using the instructions here. Either that, or try download the Slackware package again.

Something wierd is going on, any file I'm downloading is going to .tar format, I downloaded the source versions and they even changed into .tar.
What's going on?!
