Brother MFC-8670DN -- Scanner Not Working in Ubuntu 9.04

I just installed an all-in-one Brother MFC-8670DN in Ubuntu 9.04. The printing works great but I cannot get the scanner recognized. I tried brscan, brscan2 and brscan3 from the Linux section of the Brother website to no avail. Previously had a lower model Brother MFC working fine. I called Brother and they said that "I need to call Linux for help with the scanner." Anyone who can help with the Brother MFC-8670DN? It would be very much appreciated. This printer may go back to the store if I cannot get the scanner working in Ubuntu 9.04. Thanks in advance.

You probably just need to configure xsane to use the scanner.

If you still have the printer try this.

http://solutions.brother.com/linux/s...all-net.html#2

These instructions will help you set up a scanner in Ubuntu 9.04 - just make sure you use the correct driver and follow the Debian instructions. The Brother download page for Linux drivers will clearly tell you what version of the driver supports what scanner right under the links to download each driver.

Some "All-in-one" scanners aren't recognised by linux until you have put some paper in and pressed "Scan" on the "All-in-one". At first, nothing happens ......

Then fire up xsane, kooka, or whatever.

Try it.

[Edit]
And see here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...inters-724605/

FredGSanford has the scanner working.
