Brother MFC 7340 Installation

I am trying to install my Brother MFC on a PC which has Ubuntu 12.04 as the OS.
I have downloaded the driver but have no clue as to how to continue the installation. Went to Brother site where the discussion is about inputing into comand lines but I do not know where to access the comand line interface.

Ctrl + Alt + T.

That should open a command line.

Not unless you've set it up, it won't. To get the command line, go to the menu and look for the terminal program: that's it.

Wow, you are right DavidMcCann.

I'm almost suprised that canonical has removed the defualt keyboard shortcut to terminal on 12.04 (and I'd assume all later vesionsas well). But only almost.....

Thanks fellows,
Please stay with me.
How do I know which of these is applicable, LPR or CUPS?

camorri 08-20-2013 08:37 AM

LPR is used mostly for command line printing. Use cups if you can. I do not know if cups is installed by default in Ubuntu. To find out if it is running, open a web browser, and in the location bar, type http://localhost:631 and press enter. If cups is running, you will get the Cups home page on your system. If you get nothing, then it isn't installed, or not running.

To check if it is installed, open up Synaptic package manager, and look for it. Search cups. Install it if it isn't installed.

There are install instructions on Brothers web site for your printer. See this link.
