Broken screen: How to offset grub & kernel display by 2 inches?
Hi
laptop screen is damaged -a 2 inch strip on the left side is dead.
Can grub and linux kernel be configured to offset display by 2 inches from the left?

Grub can be configured to use a graphical theme that confines itself to a center portion of the screen. I've seen it, but never caused it, so don't know anything about how to set it up.
Some displays can be configured so that when a resolution less than optimal/native is utilized, screen output will use native pixels instead of logical pixels, with the result that screen output will only use a portion of the screen, but space is lost on all sides, not just the left. This I see occasionally during initial stages of boot from some PCs with some screens. How to force it I have no idea.

@mrmazda: Grub-customizer looks promising. I will see if it can be used. tks
There's a post here describing how to use xrandr to offset the display. That will work for me after boot. Right now I am having trouble with a grub modification and want to explore a fix for grub.
