Broadcom 4309 with kernel driver freezes on DHCP

I can connect to an unencrypted wireless network just fine, but when I try to connect to an encrypted one, it freezes up during DHCP. This is not the router's fault as I have connected to this network before with my previous ndiswrapped driver. I'm currently running a Debian 2.6.17-2-686 precompiled kernel and plan on doing so until I actually have time to compile a new one. I can't install ndiswrapper on this because there is no corresponding linux-headers package for this kernel.

lspci says that my card is a

02:02.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4309 802.11a/b/g (rev 03)
