Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question BP6, Mandrake 9, USB Problem

I just installed Mandrake 9 on my BP6, when booting either in SMP or Linux boot choice both get to
detecting USB filesystem /etc /init.d/usb line37 /etc/modules.conf [ok]
but it just keeps scrolling that line and go's no further.[after leaving it for a few minutes it eventually boots]
Obviously a USB issue but it scrolls that line over and over, theres nothing that i can see in the BIOS to disable USB directly, only an enable/disable section for manual IRQ assignment.
USB functions OK in Windows.
If i'm going to boot properly i need to fix this issue, any ideas?
