Booting from external USB Hard drive?
Does anyone have any experience booting Linux from an external USB hard drive?
I would like to know a good reference in doing so and also which distro(`s) is/(are) best for booting from an external hard drive.

Your ability to boot from a USB device really depends on your BIOS rather than your distro. If USB appears as one of the choices in the boot sequence section of your system's BIOS, just move it to the top of the list. If the USB drive is connected, your PC will boot from it, otherwise, it will boot off whatever it boots off of now.

On my machine the BIOS treats a USB drive as just another hard drive, not a removeable drive. So have a good look around the booting options nad not concentrate on removable drives.

I give it a try then:) I do have it as an option in my bios. I try some of the distro`s that are used on a UBS stick now.
